COVID-19: Museum CLOSED through APRIL 24

Important Update

As a community gathering place, we take the health and safety of our patrons, volunteers, and staff very seriously. For this reason and as part of our best practices, we continue to monitor reports and recommendations regarding COVID-19, otherwise known as “Coronavirus.”

With the quickly changing situation and closure of the Bainbridge Island School District, and in an effort to help mitigate the effects of COVID-19 in our region, the Museum will be closed through April 24.

Kids Discovery Museum has always been committed to the well-being of our community. This has not been an easy decision, as it impacts children and families. However, if we can be part of helping to protect public health and shorten the duration of COVID-19, we feel these sacrifices are essential. We will continue to evaluate the situation and will keep you informed about next steps.

Summer camp registration is now open. We hope you will help us get the word out and would be grateful if you chose to register early yourself so we can prepare for the next season of joyful discoveries. Members enjoy a discount through March 31. All memberships will be extended upon reopening and help the museum during the closure.

As you might know, KiDiMu relies heavily on our daily admissions, memberships, birthday parties, and camp tuition etc. to keep our doors open. The rest of our funding comes from donors and small businesses – all of which are currently feeling the larger economic impacts of COVID-19.

If your income is not currently impacted and you are able to make a contribution to KiDiMu or any other nonprofit you feel connected to, please consider doing so. As nonprofits, we all will be relying on our community as we move forward, just as our community will rely on us.

We are eager to reopen our doors and welcome our museum families back as soon as it is safe to do so. In the meantime, stay healthy and stay tuned.

Thank you for your understanding and support!

RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES:
COVID-19 does not cause illness in every person. For those who do get sick, symptoms can range from a mild cold to more severe pneumonia. KPHD reminds that everyone should practice healthy habits to prevent the spread of respiratory illnesses:

  • Wash hands often with soap and water for 20 seconds (sing the ABC or other favorite song to help younger children follow the recommended routine).
  • Cover coughs and sneezes with an elbow or tissue.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently used objects and surfaces.
  • Stay home when sick and avoid close contact with others (72 hours after the fever is gone and symptoms get better).
  • Practice “social distancing” – stay 6 feet apart from others in public spaces to limit the spread of germs.
